Building and publishing courses
Courses are the heart of the platform. You can create self-paced courses that learners take on their own time, or live, instructor-led courses with scheduled sessions — then organise the content and publish.
Self-paced vs. instructor-led #

Instructor-led courses use live video meetings, so they require a plan that includes meeting capability.
Creating a course #
The course wizard walks you through setup step by step:
- Choose the engagement type — self-paced or instructor-led.
- Add the basics — name, category, level, education level, the instructor, price, and how long access lasts.
- Write a detailed description that tells learners what they'll get.
- Build the structure — sections and chapters (and batches for live courses).
- Review and publish.
The course builder #
The builder is where you assemble the actual content. You can:
- Create sections to group related lessons.
- Add topics within each section — a document, a streamed video, or a Resource (see below).
- Upload videos and attach documents and files.
- For live courses, set up batches (cohorts) with their own dates and materials.
- Reorder sections and topics so the flow makes sense.
- Preview the course to see exactly what learners will experience.
Resource topics #
Topics aren't limited to documents and streamed video. Choose the Resource topic type to attach an interactive activity you've built in the Resources area — a quiz, coding exercise, assignment, poll, or an external video (YouTube, Vimeo, or other) that plays embedded right in the course. Pick the resource from a searchable, filterable picker and save.
Build the activity first in Quizzes, code & resources, publish it, then attach it as a Resource topic. For multi-stage programs, see Programs & cohorts.
Publishing & enrolment #
When your course is ready, publish it to make it visible to learners. You control whether enrolment is open, so you can prepare a course quietly and open it up when you're ready. Published courses appear in browsing and search, and can be enrolled in.
Short links #
Each course gets a short, shareable link you can copy or open in one click — handy for promoting a specific course directly to learners without sending them through the full catalogue.
